Network/Internet Professional
Associate in Specialized Technology Degree
18 months (day program); 24 months (evening program)
The Network/Internet Professional program will provide the student with a working knowledge of software packages in five major groups: word processing, spreadsheets, database, operating systems and networking from an administrator's viewpoint. Students will also gain an understanding of the procedures used to install software packages in the same five groups and configure the software and the hardware, as well as to the end user's specifications. The student will have a total understanding of the personal computer and network hardware from a repair and installation perspective. Also the student will learn the latest technologies including Wireless, and Network Security concepts. The student will also acquire the information and training necessary to prepare for certification testing for A+ Certification, Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) Certification as well as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification.
Graduates of this program will be prepared for positions as an Assistant Network Administrator; Computer Support Specialists; Computer, Automated Teller, and Office Machine Repairers or other positions involving software and hardware installation.
Students will take courses in Operating Systems and Windows Systems. You will learn about Local Area Networks and Novell Networks, and install and administer Windows NT in a business environment. Courses will include using routers in a wide area network environment with a focus on the TCP/IP protocol in the Internet environment. The student will program in Microsoft Visual Basic and C++ in a Windows environment.
Networking is one of the fastest growing occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupation Outlook Handbook, 2004. The Network/Internet Professional program at BTI will prepare students for a career in these occupations through intensive hands-on training with instructors with workplace experience. The curriculum changes to meet the needs and requirements of employers in the real world. Courses are taught to prepare the student for certification testing, such as A+ Certification.
